Okay, there’s no getting around saying it – Meganebu! is crazy.  But it’s FUN crazy.  The brilliant colors and splashy patterns and designs bring pop art to mind – the corresponding TV Trope that comes to mind is Design Student’s Dream.

The “meganebu” itself is an after-school club for fans of glasses.  The members each have distinct personalities – it’s easy to pick a ‘favorite’ for yourself!  And they go on wacky adventures and misadventures together – there are a lot of cute male bonding & friendship scenes.  Things grow in tension when new characters from the student council are introduced as rivals.  At its climax, it might leave you a little tearful.  And if that fails, the very final scene with the club leader’s cute little brother definitely will.  Episode 3 is a surprising tearjerker as well.

What I’m saying is, this is the very definition of “you will laugh, you will cry.”

I first discovered and fell in love with Stephanie Pui-Mun Law’s beautiful watercolor art for the series of fantasy novels by Catherine Asaro, beginning with The Charmed Sphere.  I was hooked from there and had to find more of the paintings from that artist!  As I searched, I found that she also illustrated a few Magic: The Gathering cards that I’d marveled over when I was younger!  Crazy, how things circle around and come back to you.

BONJOUR♪Koiaji Patisserie is so thoroughly sweet!! The desserts these gorgeous characters whip up are borderline food porn. Personally I am a huge fan of how beautifully the characters’ eyes and hair are drawn and colored. Maybe this is a weird thing to focus on, but I am completely in love with the color palette of this series??!? It’s so soft and pastel.

Oh, yeah, these are short episodes, too, so you can enjoy many of them in succession, if you can tolerate the overload of sugar.

Cool and thoughtful protagonist Tatsumi encounters a merman struggling on the riverbank one day and takes him home to recover, unknowing the depths of the merman’s vanity and general goofballness.  Many silly and cute interactions ensue between them and the handful of other cute fishy boys that drop by, like an octopus boy, a jellyfish boy, and tiny hermit crab boy.  The episodes are short, which makes it easy to sit back and enjoy several of them. :3 Also the opening theme is hilariously unfitting.
