Bread ‘n Butter: Memories from the Cutest Browser-Based Game Ever

Monday, July 3rd, 2017

Does anyone remember this incredibly cute game called Bread ‘n Butter?  It used to be hosted by Outspark, which doesn’t even seem to have their own landing page any more and visiting them will simply redirect you to the MMO Fiesta.

Bread ‘n Butter was a time-management simulation filled with quick minigames, all populated by some of the cutest art work of the sweetest little pastry-based characters!  The minigames are a bit like Cooking Mama or Wario Ware, where you do a quick, simple task within a fairly short time limit and then quickly move on to the next step.  The time & money management system in Bread ‘n Butter applied to the bakery/cafe that you owned, where you had to strategically place your finished baked goods around the store and have a part-time worker staffed.

It isn’t available to play any more (and the copywrite years on these screenshots don’t go higher than 2008…), and for a number of years there was like 0 information about this game on the Internet at all, and I was wondering what the heck happened to it or if anyone else even played it!  Then, Outspark created this photo album on Flickr, and I can almost immerse myself in the sweetly cute and cheerful world again with this wonderful selection of screenshots!

^ The sign-in screen!
This REALLY shows how adorable the character designs were.
Wouldn’t you, like, buy stationery and stuff with these characters on them??

I also ADORE the color palette – sweet pastels over a neutral brown & honey-yellow base!
I have a similar color scheme in one of my own game projects!

This is the “world map” screen – you actually had to travel to different locations
to gather different ingredients, such as harvesting chocolate from the woods
(where chocolate kisses grow on trees) or scooping up sweet syrup
from a volcano filled with it.

A results screen like this would show you how successful your bakery was.

An upgrade shop – I was never really able to grind enough gold
for the single gold item here, and the rest all need real currency.

There were some serious upgrades available if you could put the money towards it!

This is one of the “main” screens you would look at while playing.
The top screen shows characters working as well as shopping in your bakery,
and it’s kind of a constant that you’d keep your eye on as time passed by.
The bottom screen changes frequently, and it is where you play minigames.

Omg, look at the cute little faces on the whisk and all of those little clumps of batter!!
I remember playing this minigame with great frequency,
mashing the arrow keys like crazy lol.

Still easier than getting batter unstuck from your whisk in real life. T – T

Another minigame involving grinding flour.
In order to actually play these minigames and thus actually have supplies for your bakery,
you had to gather the raw ingredients from the forests and stuff, first.
So, it wasn’t like you could just grind through minigames,
you actually had to go out and collect the base materials, too.
There was kind of a rhythm to this game that you’d settle into,
like collect – turn into usable ingredients – bake – place in bakery.

Here is an empty bakery that needs filling!

In all of the bakery screenshots above, in the top-left corner are shown the current
part-timers available to put to work and manage your store.
You had to actually be strategic about how much some of them cost
and what strengths and weaknesses they had!

And, finally, here is the chocolate-collecting minigame in the forest. 😋
There are lots of minigames like this in other games – the one I always think of
is the fruit- or jewel-collecting minigame from Kirby 64.

Thank you for taking the time to enjoy this cute game alongside me!
I still miss it a little bit, but knowing that I have shared its cuteness
with other people is like spreading its love even long after
its lifecycle, and that’s like spreading happiness, too!

List of Dead Reckoning Games In Order (+ Downloads!)

Saturday, July 1st, 2017

I’ve covered some spooky games before –
here is another series of them to whet your macabre appetite!
The Dead Reckoning series often involves murder mystery plots
that remind me a bit of Agatha Christie books,
and with nearly just as many dramatic twists!

As with all of my games lists, follow the link to each one
to download the game and start playing for free!

Dead Reckoning: Silvermoon Isle

Silver-screen star Veronica West plummeted to her death from the top of a lighthouse
on Silvermoon Isle. Was it an accident? A suicide?
Or did someone at the party that night kill Veronica?

Solve the case using an innovative “deduction” feature
that turns questioning suspects into a fun, interactive game!

Dead Reckoning: Brassfield Manor

On the eve of his annual murder mystery party,
wealthy businessman Reginald Greer is found dead at his home.
You’ve been called to Brassfield Manor to solve the case… but it won’t be easy.
There are plenty of clues and suspects to keep you guessing who killed Reginald Greer.
Was it his spoiled daughter? His jealous son? His disgruntled business partner?
It could be any one of the guests who arrived for a game… and stayed for a murder.
Use a unique deduction feature to question characters and examine evidence!

Dead Reckoning: The Crescent Case

A traveling carnival becomes the scene of a strange murder,
and you’ve been called in to handle the case. There are no witnesses,
and everyone at the carnival denies knowing the victim.
But are their reactions all for show? The evidence points to a deeper mystery,
complete with lies, imposters, and betrayal within the close-knit carnival community.
Can you flush out the truth, or will you become just another attraction in this deadly show?

Dead Reckoning: Broadbeach Cove

Beloved celebrity Johnny Abilli has been murdered
at the Broadbeach Resort in Florida, sparking a media frenzy.
You’ve been called in to crack the case.
What starts out as a simple investigation quickly leads down a road
filled with deception and heartache. Fame is more than just a game.
Will you have better odds than the victim?

Dead Reckoning: Snowbird’s Creek

The small town of Snowbird’s Creek is famous for being
a historical Klondike Gold Rush town, but now the town is divide
on the new railway project that could make or break their little community.
When the project threatens to close down for good, the workers go on strike,
until the out-of-town railroad tycoon spearheading the project is found murdered.
The suspects start piling up, but you must determine who really killed Seth Savage.
Search the town and interrogate suspects with evidence to find the truth!

Dead Reckoning: Death Between the Lines

You’re signing copies of your latest bestseller when a mysterious man
offers you the opportunity of a lifetime – you can write a famous billionaire’s life story,
but only if you can beat four of the country’s top writers.
Everything seems great until one writer drops dead.
Suddenly, this competition has become a deadly one. Explore Mr. Welles’s huge estate,
interview suspects, and gather clues before you become the next victim!

Dead Reckoning: Sleight of Murder

The world-famous Amazing Garibaldi Brothers have been hired to perform
their newest
illusion for the grand opening of the Stevens Tower Hotel.
You’ve been invited to the premiere as the screenwriter for an upcoming film
that they will be providing new illusions for. But something sinister is lurking backstage,
and when a murderer strikes, you must use all your wits to find the killer,
before they pull their own magic trick and disappear.
Watch closely and don’t blink!

Cute & Convenient Everyday Items for Your Kawaii Home & Lifestyle

Monday, June 26th, 2017

My personal belief is that, whenever you are going to buy something convenient and functional,
if you are able to purchase that thing in a color or style that makes you happy,
you should absolutely do so!!  Especially when the thing in question is perfectly affordable!

These everyday, convenient items are all EXTREMELY cute,
AND they are not expensive at all!

Home Simply – Animal Cable / Earphone Organizer

Ohhhhh sooo cuuuuuuute!!
Not only will these hold headphone cables,
but they can wrap around other things as well –
several things are demonstrated in the photos when you click through!

I love that the nose of the animal is the button that you push through
to secure it… too cute… im gonna cry. ;A;

Litfly – Ear Head Band

These soft headbands hold your hair back while you are washing your face,
applying makeup, or anything else you might want to keep your hair
out of your face for~
And they come in these two soft, pretty colors and have cute kitty ears on them!!!

Litfly – Silicone Makeup Sponge (Tear Drop) (Pink)

These silicone makeup blenders are the current beauty trend,
and seemingly the successor of beauty blenders – since they are
silicone rather than spongy, your makeup doesn’t get absorbed into
the sponge, so more product gets on your face where you need it!
I imagine it’s also much easier to clean. c:

Hera’s Place – Cable Protector

O!M!G! these cable protectors look like sweet little pastel popsicles!!
Actually, those milky colors make them look like creamsicles……. :9
Anyway, these come in two parts – both the popsicle and its stick
work together to protect both ends of your cables!

Cute Essentials – Cherry Blossom Print Folding Umbrella

This is soooooo prettyyyyyyy!! *o*
I think that see-through umbrellas are very beautiful to begin with,
and having a shower of pretty pink petals above you as you walk through the rain…?
OMG!  That sounds so elegant and dreamy~
